Q-Review

The story of the Kinder, those children sent to England from Germany, to escape the ravages of war, is one filled with the deepest of emotions.  Taken right from the letters of the film producer's, grandparents, an intense story of survival and loss is developed.

Along with many carefully selected children's songs, composer Lee Holdridge was brought on to construct a fitting score for Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kingertransport.  Holdridge allows the children's tunes to bring the innocence and lighter musical aspects, while he focuses on the more tragic sides.  Lee Holdridge' s music draws upon the atonal works written during the WWII era.  This keeps the vast majority of his work rather dark and sad- reflecting the overall climate and emotion of this era.

The Bottom Line

This soundtrack is balanced between the hopeful children's nursery rhymes and Lee Holdridge's darker underscore.  Chapter III Records has produced a top-notch CD as the sound quality is exceptional and the liner notes are first rate- containing comments from the film's producer, composer and sound engineer as well as all of the lyrics to each vocal performance.
