Leatherheads
by Randy Newman
Opens: April 4, 2008
If ever
there was a movie suited to the
"ragtimey" talents of RANDY
NEWMAN, LEATHERHEADS is it.
Having worn out his musical
welcome in the world of Pixar
(at least in my ears, he has),
Newman returns to scoring a
live, flesh and blood flick.
With George Clooney and Renee
Zellweger, this film looks like
it will be highly entertaining,
but expecting a great
stand-alone score is probably
not a good idea this time
around.

Nim's Island
by Patrick Doyle (rumored)
Opens: April 4, 2008
..and more
children's fantasy books...and
more children's fantasy films.
This time we get Gerard Butler
(300) and Jodie Foster starring
in this film adaptation of the
children's book by Wendy Orr.
Wendy Orr's own blog shares that
PATRICK DOYLE has signed on to
the project. I'm sure that
makes her happy...and it should
score fans as well!

The Ruins
by Graeme Revell
Opens: April 4, 2008
Looks like
Graeme Revell is returning to
some his roots - scoring this
thriller about some
archeological folks on a dig in
Mexico. Hmmm. I'm
betting they find more than they
were betting on. More as
in MORE EEEEEVILLLL! Love
Graeme's stuff, but Child's Play
2, Dead Calm and the like were
never my faves of his, so I'm
keeping the anticipation level
down a ways.

The Forbidden Kingdom
by David Buckley
Opens: April 18, 2008
Jackie
Chan and Jet Li? Now that
could be something to see.
Each has made their share of
great films...and also
not-so-great films, but
together? Now that could
be some real fun. Even if
the screenplay of FORBIDDEN
KINGDOM is a disaster, the score
will still have a chance to be
good. This could go many
different directions. We
can be sure there will be some
nice eastern flavor to this, but
given the contemporary elements
of the film, that could mean
lots of electronics. This
sounds like a job for REMOTE
CONTROL. Composer David
Buckley has been brought on to
write the score and he, in fact,
is of the Remote Control family.
He has worked with Harry Gregson-Williams
on projects such as: Gone Baby
Gone, Shrek the Third, and is
scheduled to work with HGW on
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE
CASPIAN. Both KLAUS BADELT
and STEVE JABLONSKY have done
good scores for films with an
Eastern flavor, so I think its
safe to have decent expectations
here. Over-reliance on
electronics is something to
beware of though.

88 Minutes
by Ed Shearmur
Opens: April 18, 2008
It seems
like its been ages since we've
seen Al Pacino on screen.
Well, he's back in John Avnet's
88 MINUTES. Pacino is a
professor moonlighting as one of
those forensic psychiatrist who
finds out he only has 88 minutes
to live. While trying to figure
out who is behind his
death-threat, he is also trying
to help find another killer on the
loose. Could be an
interesting watch...although I
get too much INSOMNIA vibe here
and hence am half-way expecting
a snore-job a la David Julyan.
Still, it's always good to see
ED SHEARMUR's name and since he
is no longer on THE OTHER BOLEYN
GIRL, perhaps he'll make up for
it with this film.

Iron Man
(PS3, X360, PSP, PS2, Wii)
Composer
Unknown
Game release date: Quarter 2
This movie
tie-in game looks like it could
be quite blast to play.
Hopefully it does better than
the recent Superman and
Spider-man tie-in games though.
No idea on who will write the
score...but wouldn't it make
sense to have John Debney?

Metal Gear Solid 4:
Guns of the Patriots (PS3)
Composer
Harry Gregson-Williams and
Nobuko Toda
Game release date: Quarter 2
Gregson-Williams
and Toda both have reached their
3 Metal Gear Solid title score.
They should have it pretty well
dialed in by now. Should
be a "blast" to listen to.

Other Game scores to be look out
for:
Harvest Moon: Tree
of Peace (Wii)
Command & Conquer 3:
Kane's Wrath (Win, X360)
FarCry 2 (Win)
The Last Remnant
(PS3, X360)
